Entrepreneur Time Management (when you’re in a slump)
We’ve noticed lately (and have felt ourselves!) that things feel… slumpy right now. It’s ironic because for us and many of our clients, all systems are go. It’s not that there’s nothing to do or no clear direction. To the contrary, there’s just so much.
The days blur together, and we’re all in one giant race to the end of the year. (I’m totally guilty too; at home, my husband and I keep saying to each other, “The only way out is through”). So in a season like this, entrepreneur time management is more important that ever: the ability to accomplish more by doing less.
Shortly and sweetly, here are 3 things to do, each week…
1. Set one realistic goal each day.
You may be surprised to hear me say this, as I’m always talking in sets of 3. The idea of accomplishing “only” one thing may feel underwhelming. But walking into your day, proactive and clear that you’re going to do the thing you need to do (rather than what others need from you) will not only give you a sense of control – but ensure that you keep moving forward.
2. Schedule CEO time.
At a minimum, ensure that you have 90 minutes of uninterruptable CEO time blocked in your calendar each week. We require a little more of our clients 😉 but for any business owner, starting with just 1.5 hours per week will be a game changer. During this time you should be working on your business, not in it. This is your entrepreneur time; you’re strategizing and working on the future of your business.
3. Nominate an accountability buddy.
As elementary as it may sound, even the most motivated among us need accountability partners. Those who have them are 95% likely to meet their goals(!!!). Have a meeting or email/text exchange with your buddy, once per week and use this agenda:
- What one thing do I need to do this week?
- Are there any obstacles in my way? If so, what help do I need to remove them?
- Did I accomplish my one thing last week?
Each week through the end of the year (there’s only about 6 left, with holidays!), open your week with these 3 steps to master entrepreneur time management.
Keep it simple, keep it clear, and keep your actions tied to a higher purpose.
Let’s end the year together, with money and meaning.
